A legal notice has been served on the Manipur Government and the Chief Executive Officer of Waqf Board, Manipur, directing them to comply with an order of the High Court of Manipur restraining the finalisation of the constitution of the Waqf Board without the Court's permission.
The notice, issued by Senior Advocate BP Sahu on behalf of petitioner Noornganbi Shah, a resident of Sora Awang Leikai stated that the High Court, while hearing a writ petition today, directed the respondents not to finalise the constitution of the Waqf Board until further orders of the Court.
According to the notice, the writ petition challenges the notification issued on July 2, 2026, concerning the constitution of the Waqf Board, alleging non-compliance with mandatory statutory requirements, including representation of women in the Board.
The legal notice has been addressed to the Principal Secretary/Secretary (Minority Affairs), the Director of Minority Affairs, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Waqf Board, Manipur.
It called upon the authorities to immediately comply with the High Court's direction and refrain from approving, notifying, publishing or giving effect to the formation or reconstitution of the Waqf Board until permitted by the court.
The notice further warned that any action taken in violation of the Court's direction may amount to overreaching the judicial process and and other legal consequences.
