Public discussion highlights Hijam Irawat's pivotal role in strengthening Manipur's unity

A public discussion on "Role of Comrade Hijam Irawat in strengthening Manipur's unity and his political journey" was conducted today at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
It was jointly organised by the All India Youth Federation (AIYF) and All India Students' Federation (AISF), Manipur State Council, in commemoration of the historic Chinga Session (December 29-30, 1938).The public discussion was accompanied by the official launch of the souvenir titled "Comrade Hijam Irawat Singh (September 30, 1896 to September 26,1951)" .
The event was graced by dignitaries, including Dr Moirangthem Nara Singh, former Minister of Art & Culture; Lairenjam Sumatibala.

At the event, speakers highlighted Hijam Irawat's pivotal role in strengthening Manipur's unity through his efforts to bridge the hill and valley divide, fight social injustices, and promote a shared civic identity.
They emphasized that the iconic leader championed social & political awakening, fought injustice, and transformed movements like the Nikhil Manipuri Mahasabha into a force for a unified, developed Manipur, challenging oppression and laying groundwork for modem politics and rights.
They also asserted that the Chinga Session of December 1938, presided over by Hijam Irawat, was a landmark moment, ushering in an era of democratic and anti-feudal, anti-imperialist political movement in Manipur.
Offering floral tributes to Comrade Hijam Irawat Singh and interactive sessions were the other highlights of the event.
