Imphal, May 29 2025:
A meeting of various drivers' and motor workers' associations has resolved to refrain from taking any form of donation from truck drivers along National Highway 2 (Imphal-Dimapur) starting June 1, 2025 .
The resolution was adopted during a joint meeting of the Manipur Drivers' Association (MDA), Manipur Gorkha Motor Workers Welfare Union (MMGMWA), Senapati District Truck Drivers Union (SDTDU), and Senapati District Truck Owners Association (SDTOA) held at the Highway Resort at Awang Sekmai today.
Speaking to the media, MDA president Saikhom Babudhon appealed to all organizations and unions along the Imphal-Dimapur highway to cease soliciting donations from truck drivers.
He also urged drivers to refrain from making donations while transporting goods on this route.
The decision to stop taking donations from drivers was made in consideration of their plight, particularly those transporting supplies from other States via the Imphal-Dimapur road, he said.
Saying that drivers have been bringing essential goods to Manipur regardless of the situation in Manipur, whether it be rain or other difficulties, he added that the collection of illegal taxes along the National Highways, however, is a significant burden for drivers.
Meanwhile, Babudhon appealed for the immediate release of the truck driver abducted from Kaiphundai Village, urging the group involved to ensure his safety.
