Imphal, May 27 2026:
Art and Culture Minister Kh Loken on Wednesday said that a State's development hinges on its economy and the ongoing unrest has pushed Manipur back by 10 to 20 years.
Stressing that peace and a strong push to the tourism sector are the only ways to recover lost ground, he urged collective efforts to restore law and order.
He was speaking at the award ceremony of the 4th Manipuri Film Script Competition 2026, organised by the Cine Writers and Playwrights Forum Manipur at the JNMDA Auditorium.
Film Forum Manipur vice chairman N Suijitkanta and CWPFM president Manaobi MM attended as presidium members.

Loken noted that Manipur, with limited resources, depends on the Centre and cannot achieve self-sufficiency overnight.
Developing tourism could significantly boost employment and revenue, as seen in other States and countries that have transformed into major destinations.
However, he added, recurring unrest has sharply reduced tourist inflow, leaving the sector struggling.
Highlighting Manipur's strength in sports and art & culture, the Minister called on artists to harness their ability to influence minds and guide society toward progress.
"Art can touch the soul and shape thought.
Artists must help steer public sentiment in a positive direction", he said.
