Tamenglong Forest Division holds awareness programme on wildlife conservation

Tamenglong, January 24 2026: The Tamenglong Forest Division in collaboration with Dikiuram Village Authority, organised a one-day awareness programme on Saturday, highlighting the importance of forest and wildlife conservation.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Tamenglong, Kharibam Hitler Singh attended the programme as chief guest, while chairman of Dikiuram village, Pamai Maisongrai, presided over the event.

Range Forest Officer (RFO) Tamenglong, Joel Gangmei, and RFO Tamei, Johnson Khundrakpam, served as resource persons and spoke on conservation-related issues.

Around 120 men and women from Dikiuram and neighbouring villages participated in the programme, including the chairmen of Lenglong, Konphung and Langpram villages.

Forest officials highlighted that the area is historically significant as a natural habitat for hornbills, with four species found in the region-Great Hornbill, Oriental Pied Hornbill, Rufous-necked Hombill and Wreathed Hornbill - known locally by different names among the Liangmei and Rongmei communities.

The programme stressed the need for community participation in protecting these species and preserving the forest ecosystem.
