Thoubal, November 23 2025:
Aggrieved by the authorities' prolonged inaction on repairing the deteriorating road in Charangpat village under Wangkhem Assembly Constituency, local youths launched a protest this evening by digging up several portions of the 2.5 km stretch from Charangpat Maning Leikai to Mamang Leikai.
Protesters reportedly used JCM machines to excavate parts of the road at multiple locations, including Khongjawang Laimang, Emoinu Bazar, Mayai Leikai Laibung, Seleipung, Luxmi Bazar and Mamang Leikia Laibung, severely hindering movement between Thoubal town and Charangpat villages.
Residents of the village, L Bheigyachandra and Sohodeva Sorokhaibam, stated that the road serves as a vital link connecting Thoubal with Charangpat and neighbouring areas such as Nongpok Sekmai, Lourembam, Ukhongshang, and Kasom Khullen.
They lamented that despite repeated appeals to the local MLA and authorities, no action has been taken to address the worsening condition of the road.
Villagers reported that the travelling along the route has caused severe inconvenience to the commuters, with vehicles taking almost 30 minutes to cover the short 3 km stretch - journey that would normally take only 25 minutes from Imphal to Thoubal.
They expressed frustration, stating that today's action was a result of longstanding neglect.
They therefore urged authorities to take immediate steps to repair the road in the public interest, and warned that failure to act promptly would compel them to intensify their agitation with a more severe form of demonstration.
