Speaking on the occasion, MLA Okram Surjakumar stated that there have been allegations from various quarters that the Election Commission of India has been functioning in line with the Central Government, and therefore BLAs must remain alert and cautious during the SIR exercise.
He expressed concern over the timing and manner of conducting the Special Intensive Revision, terming it a "skeptical act" in the absence of sufficient time.
Referring to allegations raised during recent elections in West Bengal, he claimed that many Congress supporters' names were allegedly excluded from electoral rolls, leading to widespread complaints.
He further said that the SIR process, scheduled to be carried out from May 30 to June 28, must be closely monitored by BLAs to ensure that no genuine citizen is deprived of his or her voting rights.
During the programme, BLA identity cards were distributed to the presidents of the Block Congress Committees of the six constituencies by the presidium members.
