'Now for climate': MSAP Alumni plants 600 saplings along Imphal River

Imphal, July 19 2026: The Association of Manipuri Students' Association Pune (MSAP) Alumni, Manipur, conducted its 3rd tree plantation drive today at Hatta Golapati, Imphal.

The drive was organised in collaboration with Golapati Hatta Youth Volunteers Organisation, Golapati Educational Social & Cultural Development Organisation and Central Forest Division, Government of Manipur.

Speaking as chief guest, Wangkhei AC MLA and MSAP Alumni advisor Thangjam Arunkumar said protecting the environment must begin from every home.

He stressed on proper disposal of single-use plastic and solid waste to check pollution.

He added that linear plantation along riverbanks will help prevent erosion and beautify surroundings.

Calling for public participation in nurturing the saplings, he noted that climate change has brought irregular rainfall and other impacts.

Other dignitaries present included Chief Conservator of Forests L Joykumar Singh, MSAP Alumni president Prof Th Asha Sinha, Central Circle Conservator of Forests RK Amatjit Singh and Divisional Forest Officer Vikram Suresh Nadhe.

As part of the drive held under the "Now for climate" World Environment Day theme, around 200 people including local club members, women and students of Manipur Creative School planted 600 saplings along Imphal River from Minuthong to Kangla Nongpok Thong.

The "Ningol Van" initiative also tagged saplings with QR codes and names of 110 women participants.

In a similar effort to address climate change, the Progressive Youth Organisation, Women's Welfare Association Uripok Sorbon Thingel Haorongbam Leikai, Matai Ashei Loklen Joint Forest Management Committee and Sadar East Range, Central Forest Division jointly organised a plantation drive today at Matai, part of Langol Reserved Forest, where 90 tree saplings were planted.
