District-level training programme on Jhum Cultivation held at Noney

Noney, July 16 2025:
A one-day combined district-level training programme on Jhum cultivation was held at the Multipurpose Hall, Longmai Part-3, Noney District Headquarters today, to address the challenges faced by Jhumia cultivators and explore possible remedies.
The program was organised by the Barak River Valley Development Board (BRVDB), Manipur in collaboration with the District Horticulture & Soil Conservation Officers of Noney and Tamenglong.
The event was hosted by M Anthony, Project officer, BRVDB.
Thaithuilung Pamei, IAS, Commissioner, Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur, attended as chief guest, while Stiff Kapidang, ADM Noney district, was the guest of honour.
The training featured several technical sessions by subject experts.
Dr David Kamei, SMS, KVK Hengbung, spoke on common pests, insects, and diseases affecting horticulture crops and their control measures.
Dr Roshan Dangmei, Horticulture Development Officer, addressed the environmental impact of Jhum cultivation and raised awareness about various Government schemes available to farmers.
Gaichuipuiliu Maringmei, Assistant Agriculture Officer, spoke on the scope and benefits of commercial horticulture farming.

Local Resource Person, highlighted the activities and benefits of farmer registration under Builuangbut Farmer Producer Company (FPC).
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Pukan Hungyo, Program Officer, BRVDB, who expressed sincere gratitude to the dignitaries and the enthusiastic participation of over 200 farmers who attended the training.
