Condolence meetings conducted

Thoubal/Jiribam, February 14 2026: A condolence meeting was held today at Congress Bhawan, Thoubal to mourn the recent untimely passing of Okram Sorodhoni Devi and Ningombam Ingoba Singh alias Sanatomba organised by Thoubal Block Congress Committee (TBCC).

Sorodhoni was the former vice-president of Thoubal Block Congress Committee (TBCC) while Ingoba served as a delegate member of 31/22 Unit Level Committee BCC, Thoubal.

The gathering observed a 2-minute silence to pay their respects to the two deceased souls.

The condolence meeting was attended by Khangabok AC ML A Okram Suijakumar Singh; Thoubal Block Congress Committee president W Ramananda; Khangabok AC former MLA Okram Landhoni; DCC Thoubal president Nongmaithem Lukhoi; TBCC working president Kh Ibohal Singh; vice president Md Najir Hussain; vice president S Manglem and vice president Kh Manglem as presidium members.

At the event, MLA O Surjakumar conveyed heartfelt condolences upon the passing of Sorodhoni and Ingoba, whom he described as important members of the Party.

Terming their deaths as a huge loss, he said the Party stands in solidarity with the bereaved families.

He further said that the death of Okram Sorodhoni Devi will leave a void, not only for the Party but the entire State.

Separately, a condolence meeting was conducted at Pallarbond in Cachar, Assam to honour the contributions of recently deceased Maisnam Bhuban Singh, the first short story writer from Barak Valley.

As per a press release, his short story "Oktaba" was published in a daily newspaper in 1952, reportedly becoming the first short story out of Barak Valley.

He passed away on February 8, 2026 .

He was 91 years of age.

He was bom to Maisnam Thambou and Maisnam Ongbi Mikoi Devi on November 28, 1935 at Pallarbond village in Cachar, Assam.

In 1949, he published a handwritten quarterly journal titled "Asha" .

In 1952, he established "Naha Lairik Shat" at his residence.

The condolence meeting was organised by the Manipuri Literary Forum, Assam, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Assam (Banskandi Branch), Apunba Khungang Mapan Chaokhad Lup, Banskandi and Rural Development Association.
