International Nurses Day celebrated

The Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI) and Student Nurses Association of India (SNAI), Manipur State Branch, celebrated International Nurses Day 2025 with great enthusiasm at Jubilee Hall, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, under the global theme, "Our Nurses, Our Future, Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies" .
The event was graced by dignitaries, including Dr Chambo Gonmei, Director, Health Services, Medical Directorate, Government of Manipur; Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, Imphal; N Tangbi Devi, President, TNAI Manipur State Branch; Prof Th Nandarani Devi, National Vice President (North East Region), TNAI; and N Ibemhal, Chief Nursing Officer, RIMS, Imphal.
Other distinguished attendees included Th Binodini Devi, Secretary, TNAI Manipur State Branch, and Velentina Pheiroijam, SNA Advisor, alongside faculty members, nursing professionals, and student nurses from institutions across the State, said a release issued by RIMS.
Addressing the gathering, Dr ChamboGonmei praised the dedication of nurses, especially those serving in underserved and remote regions of Manipur.
"Florence Nightingale's legacy lives on through nurses who remain the backbone of healthcare today.
In Manipur, they provide vital care even in the remotest areas where doctors are absent.
Though over 81,000 nurses are trained, many remain unemployed, signaling a need for more opportunities.
Ongoing efforts aim to upgrade nursing institutions with support from organizations like TNAI", he added.
Emphasizing RIMS' commitment to nursing excellence, Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma said, "It is an honor to join you for International Nurses Week, celebrating our dedicated nursing professionals.
This week honors Florence Nightingale's legacy and the vital role nurses play in healthcare today.

The event highlighted the invaluable contributions of nurses and the urgent need to invest in their well-being, professional development, and working conditions.
Speakers collectively emphasized the role of nurses as a central pillar in strengthening public health systems and national economies.
The celebration concluded with vibrant cultural performances by student nurses, a pledge ceremony affirming their commitment to compassionate care, and a collective acknowledgment of the nursing community's enduring spirit and service.
