Imphal, July 06 2012:
After a day the announcement of forming the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit (ILP) System and handing over the ongoing movement for re-implementation of ILP in the state to the people, Advisor of FREINDS Kakchingtabam Birahari Sharma has launched a fast unto death stir from today to exert pressure on the government for adopting a definite resolution over the public demand in the current Assembly session.
A resident of Thongju Part-II, 72-year old Birahari, who is popularly known as KB Sharma, began his fast unto death stir at the community hall of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai from today.
BK Sharma was preparing to launch his stir from 11 am when police got wind of it and came down to stop him.
However, at around 11.45 am, people of the locality came out in large number to stage a protest demonstration, and along with that BK Sharma began his stir.
Talking to mediapersons in connection with his agitation, BK Sharma observed that there is no point of surviving, if the coming generations are to be annihilated.
"So, I have no fear over sacrificing my life for the sake of saving coming generation", he said, adding that he decided to launch the stir at his own volition.
BK Sharma said that he may think of lifting the stir at once if all the 60 MLAs took a unanimous resolution on re-implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the state during the ongoing monsoon session of the State Assembly.
However, if the MLAs did not have any concern for the coming generation and tried to sideline the issue, then more intense agitations would be launched.
"Even if the government uses its forces and put me behind the bar, I would not give up my fast", BK Sharma added categorically.
Meanwhile, in support of the demand for re-implementation of Inner Line Permit System, members of Patsoi Part-III Meira Paibis and Club staged a sit-in-protest at the market shed of Patsoi Part-III today.
Similar protest demonstrations were also organised by jointly by people of Malom Makha Leikai, Malom Mayai Leikai and RDA at Malom Keithel, by YUC and local Meira Paibis at Langthabal Phura Makhong as well as by local Meira Paibis and Club members at Langthabal Awang Leikai.
On the other hand, members of All Manipur Nupi Marup today charged towards the State Assembly complex raising various issues including the public demand for re-implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the state.
However, they were stopped by the police near the traffic point of MG Avenue and forced them to return back to Irabot Bhavan near Rup Mahal Tank.
