Samananda Khangembam, an MSc student from Manipur University's Physics Department has been selected to pursue Ph D programme at Northern Illinois University (NIU), Chicago, USA.
Accepting the offer, Kh Samananda would leave his home State for the USA on August 8.He has also been offered a full-time teaching assistanship with a monthly stipend of USD 1654 and a full waiver of tuition fees.
According to a statement issued by Prof K Yugindro, the Head of Department (i/c) of MU's Physics Department, Kh Samananda is the first student of the department to have achieved such feat.
He cleared the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Physics Test and Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) in November 2011 .

He had also done his MSc dissertation projecy entitled 'Solar Neutrino Problem under the supervision of Prof K Yugindro.
Samnanda is the eldest son of Kh (O) Heikrujam Shanti Devi of Khoyathong Polem Leikai.
She is presently serving as LDC in the State Agriculture department.
Kh Samananda would be received by the North American Manipuri Association (NAMA) at the Chicago O'Hare International Airport.
