Senapati, September 05 2025:
The Naga People's Organization (NPO) has strongly voiced its concern over the prolonged negligence of NH-129 A Maram-Peren road, which is regarded as an alternate lifeline of Manipur.
In a press statement, the NPO said the highway is the only alternate route connecting Manipur and Nagaland, especially after monsoon rains damaged several other vital routes, including NH-2, NH-37, and Mao to Chakhabama route.
The Maram-Peren road has witnessed heavy traffic for several months now, ferrying essential goods to Manipur, yet the condition of the road remains neglected by the concerned work agency.
The organisation alleged that the stretch from Maram Center to Duigum Package 1A, covering 13 km to 22 km, remains incomplete and is still at the formation-cut-ting stage.

Frequent landslides in Nagaland over the past two to three months have diverted heavy vehicles to NH-129A, causing massive traffic congestion and making even short journeys take an entire day.
The NPO urged the Manipur Government to take immediate action to complete the road at the earliest.
It also demanded that NHIDCL officials be held accountable, considering the termination of the contract with CSR company, and warned of democratic forms of agitation if the project continues to be delayed by NHIDCL and CSR .
