RIMS welcomes New Year with voluntary blood donation camp

A Voluntary Blood Donation Camp and Felicitation of Dedicated Blood Donors was successfully organised yesterday by AVBD & Associates, in association with the Department of Transfusion Medicine, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, on the theme "Let's Donate Blood on New Year's Day; Let's Stay Away from Alcohol and Drugs" .
As per a release issued by RIMS, the programme aimed to promote voluntary blood donation and create awareness about organ donation.
The programme was graced by dignitaries, including Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, Imphal; Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital; Dr Pratima Khoyumthem, HOD (i/c), Department of Transfusion Medicine, RIMS, Imphal; Prof L Rajesh Singh, Dean (Academics), RIMS, Imphal; and Dr Rajivkumar Narengbam, Principal, IRE Group of Institutions.
In his address, Prof Sunil Kumar emphasized the importance of voluntary blood donation as a lifesaving act and encouraged people, especially the youth, to come forward and donate blood regularly.
He highlighted the growing need for organ donation and appealed to the public to pledge for organ donation, thereby saving lives beyond one's lifetime.
He also asserted that the Department of Transfusion Medicine, RIMS, Imphal, is actively working to reduce the gap between blood demand and supply by organising various blood donation camps across the State.
As part of the programme, a voluntary blood donation drive and an organ donation pledgetaking ceremony were conducted, witnessing enthusiastic participation from donors and attendees.
Dedicated voluntary blood donors were felicitated in recognition of their selfless service and consistent contributions toward saving lives.
A total of 130 volunteers donated blood during the camp, and certificates were distributed to all donors.
