Imphal, March 28 2020:
Hours after Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker's Tribunal disqualified him today, ex-Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar said he is ready to face by-poll.
"I welcome the judgement (disqualification) and I am ready to contest the by poll," Shyamkumar said at his official residence.
Stating he 'considers' his disqualification from being a Member of Legislative Assembly is in accordance with the Constitution, Shyamkumar said he agrees with the decision of the Speaker' Tribunal.
It may be noted that Shyamkumar was elected on Congress ticket and became Forest Minister in the BJP led State Government.
He was recently prohibited from entering the State Assembly complex and was stripped off his charge as Minister by the Supreme Court.
His disqualification came weeks after the top Court had directed the Speaker to take a decision in the case.
Further commenting on the disqualification case that had seen no ending for a long time, Shyamkumar charged that he faced the disqualification case because 'years of dictatorial rule was rooted out' .
"I faced disqualification (case) because years of dictatorial rule was rooted out.
However, I will never stand against the law," he said thanking people of Andro Assembly Constituency for electing him as MLA.
Stating that a by poll is imminent due to his disqualification, Shyamkumar said he will be contesting the election and appealed the people of Andro to support him.
He also urged people of the State to follow guidelines and advisory issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and State Government to fight novel coronavirus.
