FEGOCTA decries, endorses

The Federation of Government College Teachers' Association (FEGOCTA) while strongly condemning contents of the news report published in a local daily under the heading "Biometrics report finds teachers' dismal attendance record" on August 23, has endorsed the resolution of Imphal College Teachers Association to sue the particular daily with a defamation charge of Rs 5 crore for allegedly publishing malicious and defamatory news item.
A resolution to this end was adopted during an emergency meeting of FEGOCTA held today at Imphal College.
Noting that the defective biometrics system has defamed the teaching profession, the meeting resolved to stop biometrics reporting from August 26 in all Government colleges.
To hold a press meet on August 26 on the issue of biometrics at Manipur Press Club followed by an open discussion at Imphal College on the topic "Higher Education and Biometrics: Problems and Prospects" were some other resolutions adopted at the meeting.
It also decided to urge the Government for appointment of a Director for the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education from academic background, not from amongst bureaucrats for effective discharge of academic functions/activities of the Directorate.
To boycott M/S Extreme Wave for supplying defective biometrics systems to Government colleges and appraise AMWJU about the malicious news report published in the particular daily were the other resolutions adopted during the emergency executive meeting.Meanwhile FEGOCTA has convened a general body meeting on August 31 at 10 am at GP Women's College, conveyed a press release.
