Imphal, August 25 2013:
Consequent to the news report by a vernacular daily on the issue of post biometric attendance system analysis of the college teachers, a meeting was hurriedly convened by the DM College of Science Teachers' Association at 1 pm of August 24 at the college and minutely discussed the issue of poor attendance report that has damaged the prestige of the premier college in Manipur, informed a statement issued by its secretary Dr Th Ranjit.
Along with condemning the unfounded news report the meeting unanimously resolved to highlight that although the Biometric Attendance System was formally inaugurated on June 5, 2013, the system was commissioned with effect from July 25, 2013 as the process of registration was done in phase wise manner.
The delay in the registration process was due to the large number of faculties (Departments) and reopening of the College on July 20 only after the summer vacation, explained the Association statement and pointed out that on the basis of Biometric installation process, the number of working days available for July month was only 6 (six) days.
This suggests that the maximum number of days (presents) in Biometric Machine could be only 6 days.
The report, thus, published for the month of July 2013 having 25 working days is not applicable in respect of DM College of Science, maintained the secretary.
The meeting also discussed on some suspicious errors in recording the attendance of teachers in the Machine highlighting the cases where the biometric signatures of some staff were not recognized properly or read their MGELs and resolved unanimously to request the concerned authority to re-check the machine for proper functioning at the earliest.
The meeting finally expressed deep regret the unwarranted report which has damaged the integrity of the teachers who have been working prestigiously for the welfare of the students' community since the inception of the college, added the Association.
