Imphal, August 30 2026:
Haorongbam Ashirjit Luwang (Boicha) on Sunday announced that he will contest the upcoming 13th Manipur Legislative Assembly election from Khurai Assembly Constituency.
The announcement was made at a public interaction programme held at his residence at Khurai Chingangbam Leikai, Ayangpalli Road, organised by Khurai Apunba Naharol.
People from all 46 polling stations of Khurai AC attended the programme.
Addressing the gathering, renowned writer Manindra Konsam traced Ashirjit's academic and social journey.
He said Ashirjit, who holds an MA in Philosophy, has been active in student movements since his early days.
He served as general secretary of CC Higher Secondary School Students Union, general secretary of DM College of Arts Students Union for two consecutive terms, vice-president of Joint DM College Students Union, general secretary of Manipur Students' Federation (MSF), president of Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU), and president of Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM).
Manindra said Ashirjit had played a leading role in the mass uprising against extension of ceasefire without territorial limits in 2001 and had even been detained and beaten by police during a protest in front of Raj Bhavan over the killing of Thangjam Manorama Devi.
Speaking on the occasion, Ashirjit said he wants to build a culture of hard work and self-reliance in Khurai, instead of depending on imported goods.
His priorities include development in all sectors, self-sufficiency in food, promotion of local production, welfare of farmers and artisans, and job creation for youth.
He also urged voters not to sell their votes for money and to choose candidates wisely in the upcoming election.
