National Anti-Leprosy Day: RIMS calls for eradication

The Department of Dermatology, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, observed National Anti-Leprosy Day with the theme "Ending Discrimination, EnsuringDignity".
The event, held at the General OPD Complex, RIMS Hospital, aimed to raise awareness and strengthen efforts towards leprosy elimination.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS; Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent; Dr Chitralekha Keisham, HOD (i/c), Department of Dermatology; Dr Salam Bocha Singh, State Leprosy Officer, Manipur; and Prof Th Nandakishore Singh, Professor, Department of Dermatology, RIMS.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Sunil Kumar emphasized that leprosy is completely curable and early diagnosis & timely treatment are essential to prevent disability and transmission.
He urged healthcare workers, students, and the community to eliminate myths and stigma, ensuring dignity, compassion, and equality for persons affected by leprosy.
The Director also reaffirmed RIMS' commitment to awareness, early case detection, outreach, and rehabilitation services.
The observance focused on promoting early detection, complete treatment, and reducing stigma and discrimination, while ensuring social inclusion and dignity.
Leprosy-affected patients were felicitated to recognize their resilience and encourage rehabilitation.
The event was attended by dignitaries, faculty, staff, and students, reflecting RIMS' collective commitment to public health awareness and compassionate care.
