Imphal, August 29 2025:
The Meetei Council (MCM), Moreh has strongly criticised the Independent People's Tribunal (IPT) report on the Manipur conflict, released on August 20 by the People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) .
In a statement, the MCM described the IPT report as "unethical", "ill-timed," and "one-sided" .
The organisation expressed that such a publication, instead of promoting peace, could reignite tensions among communities.
"At a time when the State is slowly healing, with animosity significantly reduced and possibilities of peace talks emerging, the release of this report appears to be an attempt to disturb the fragile calm," the MCM added.
The Council further alleged that the IPT's attempt to blame the Meitei community amounted to "adding fuel to fire" and cautioned that such actions might provoke fresh unrest when peace efforts are gradually taking root.
The organisation urged the Government of India to intervene and take immediate steps to stop such "biased and ill-motivated" reports, warning that they could reignite violence and cause further devastation.
Asserting that PUCL ought to withdraw its report, the MCM said that it should bear full responsibility if the report rekindles violence in the State.
