Jiribam Massacre : NIA Court takes cognizance of charge sheet

Special Court NIA Manipur Number 1 today took cognizance of the charge sheet submitted against three accused in the abduction and brutal murder of three women and three children including an 8-month old baby by Kuki militants on November 11, 2024 at Jakuradhor Karong, Jiribam district.
The three accused who are presently lodged in Temporary Jail, Jiribam in connection with the case are Thanglienlal Hmar alias Boya (40) s/o Soilal Hmar, Lalrosang Hmar alias Rosang (24) s/o Soilal Hmar both from Moinathol village, Dilkhosh Grant, Cachar, Assam and Khopuimoi Hmar alias Puia (33) s/o (L) Thienga Hmar of Keisel Punji of Borobekra, Jiribam.

They were produced before the Court via video conferencing in connection with the charge sheet submitted by NIA Imphal Branch.
They have been charged under different sections of the BNS and UA(P) Act.
NIA also submitted prosecution sanction against the accused persons under the UA(P) Act along with the charge sheet for taking cognizance on January 23.The submitted charge sheet of the NIA was put up before the Court for consideration.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the Special PP NIA, the defence counsel of the accused persons and on perusal of the submitted charge sheet and after considering the material on record, took cognizance of the charge sheet under different sections of BNS, Arms Act and UA(P) Act.
The Court also directed NIA to furnish relevant papers of the charge sheet to the accused persons on or before February 10, 2026.Three women and three children belonging to the Meitei community were abducted by Kuki militants from Jakuradhor Karong, Jiribam district on November 11, 2024 and it was suspected that the victims were taken toward Barak River.
The victims were identified as Yurembam Rani Devi (60) w/o Nabakishore, Telem Thoibi Devi (31) w/o Uttam, Laishram Heitonbi (25) w/o Herojit, Telem Thajamanbi (8) d/o Uttam, Laishram Chingkheinganba (2) s/o Herojit and Laishram Langamba (8 months) s/o Herojit.
A few days after their abduction, dead bodies of the victims were found in Barak River, close to the inter-State boundary of Manipur and Assam in a decomposed state.
The bodies bore multiple injuries, were mutilated and the eyes were found gorged out.
Following the recovery of the dead bodies, a massive protest erupted in Imphal valley and the angry protesters stormed residences of some Ministers and MLAs.
In compliance with an order of the Ministry of Home Affairs, NIA took up the case after re-registering the FIR already registered at Borobekra police station.
During investigation, Thanglienlal Hmar alias Boya (40) s/o Soilal Hmar of Moinathol village, Dilkhosh Grant Cachar, Assam who was said to be a key conspirator of the brutal massacre was arrested by a joint team of NIA and Assam Police on July 31 last year.
In a follow-up action, two more accused were arrested by NIA.
After investigation, the NIA submitted a charge sheet before the Court on January 23, 2026 .
