Imphal, June 27 2025:
RIMS Gate Transporter's Joint Administrative Council has prohibited electric-rickshaws (e-rickshaws) from ferrying passengers along RIMS Road and RIMS Gate without obtaining the necessary permit from the State Transport Department from July 2 onwards.
Speaking to media persons today at Manipur Press Club, Kh Bota Luwang, media coordinator, RIMS Gate Transporter's Joint Administrative Council, said that an uptick in the number of e-rickshaws engaging in passenger service without the transport permit has caused frequent confrontation with RIMS Gate drivers who have been servicing this route for many years equipped with the necessary road permit.
However, the JAC has not restricted paratransit or reserved passenger service, he added.
He accused many drivers of pasting "RIMS" in bold letters in their vehicles without the permission of the relevant authority and urged them to instead inscribe the origin and destination assigned by the Transport Department on their vehicles and remove the wrongly affixed "RIMS" by July 2.The JAC media coordinator also instructed drivers belonging to diesel, petrol and electric rickshaws society/associations who are ferrying passengers from Khwairamband Bazar side and passing by RIMS Gate to drop the passengers at the northern side of RIMS Gate along the police barrack.
Meanwhile, passengers being ferried by RIMS Gate drivers should be dropped at the southern side of the gate.
This arrangement has been made by the JAC for the convenience of emergency/ urgent care patients coming to the hospital, added Kh Bota Luwang.
He sought the support and cooperation of the leaders of diesel, petrol and electric auto rickshaw associations in this connection.
