MPP gears up to conduct election to select new president

With the successful mediation of their internal feud, the Manipur People's Party (MPP) is set to hold an election to select a full-fledged president of the party on July 6 .
A Central Committee meeting of MPP held on May 25 adopted the resolution to conduct the election.
Speaking to mediapersons at the MPP office located at Mapal Kangjeibung People's Road, general secretary (administration) K Muktasana said that during the Central Committee meeting, the gathering resolved to conduct a general conference of the Party on July 6 at GM Hall.
He urged the presidents of various Assembly Constituency Committees, State delegates and Central Committee members to attend the general conference which will commence from 8 am.
After the general conference, an election will be conducted and votes will be cast to elect the new president of MPP.
Regarding the prolonged internal feud within MPP, the counsel of the two contending groups submitted a petition to the High Court of Manipur to initiate a mediation of the case at an ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) centre.
Subsequently, the High Court of Manipur on April 24 issued an order to this effect.
According to a.May 5 report submitted by the mediator, the two disputing sides agreed to conduct an election for the selection of a new full-fledged president of MPP within two months.
In view of this agreement, the counsel for the parties submitted a request to close the case and consequently a single bench of Justice Ahanthem Bimol Singh approved the request.
