Bishnupur, December 26 2025:
The 50-bedded District Hospital, Bishnupur, a vital healthcare institution catering not only to the people of the district but also to neighbouring areas, has been granted approval for upgradation to a 200-bedded hospital, owing to the concerted efforts of local MLA K Govindas, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Bishnupur Dr L Raichandra, Medical Superintendent Dr Kh Satyabala and the District Hospital Management Committee.
This was stated by District Hospital Management Committee member M Bilky Singh while speaking to the media at a press conference held at the District Hospital, Bishnupur.
Bilky Singh said that there was a time when the hospital severely lacked infrastructure, specialist doctors, manpower, nurses and Grade IV staff, causing significant inconvenience in the delivery of quality healthcare services.
However, with sustained support and efforts from the local MLA, CMO, Medical Superintendent and the Management Committee, the hospital has witnessed marked improvement, including the deployment of various specialist doctors, enabling smooth and effective functioning.
He informed that several departments, including Surgery, Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, ENT, Dental, General Medicine, Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD), Pharmacy, AYUSH and ICU, are now functioning smoothly with qualified doctors and trained staff.
According to him, the hospital earlier attended to only around 150 to 200 patients daily at the OPD, which has now increased to approximately 400 to 500 patients per day.
He added that the hospital is also effectively providing Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) services to persons living with HIV.
Dialysis services, which earlier averaged about 150 sessions per month, have now increased to 250 sessions and are expected to reach 300 sessions in the coming month.
Bilky further said that the hospital is now regularly conducting major surgical procedures in departments such as General Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
He added that around 100 emergency and trauma patients are being treated daily.
He also highlighted that with the assistance of Deputy Commissioner Bishnupur Pooja Elangbam and support from an NGO, a state-of-the-art ultrasound machine worth Rs 30 lakh has been installed at the hospital.
In addition, the hospital has been equipped with a blood transfusion cell and facilities to conduct various diagnostic tests.
He stated that with support from KRSNA, a total of 133 diagnostic tests are being conducted at the hospital free of cost for patients.
However, he pointed out that due to the hospital being a 50-bedded facility earlier, deputation of additional doctors, nurses and staff was not feasible.
With the approval granted by the Planning Department on December 1 to upgrade the hospital to 200 beds, he said, the longstanding demand for enhanced manpower and infrastructure would now be addressed.
Bilky Singh expressed gratitude to all those involved, including the local MLA, CMO, Medical Superintendent, District Administration and the Management Committee, stating that the upgradation would significantly strengthen healthcare infrastructure and service delivery in Bishnupur district.
