Imphal, December 25 2008:
A REQUEST for additional Central Paramilitary Forces sought by the state election authority for Moirang by-poll on December 27 has been turned down by the Union Ministry of home affairs today, official said.
With this development, the election authority here has decided to utilize two companies of home guard personnel with eight sections of MR personnel undergoing basic training at Manipur Police Training School (MPTS), Pangei, the source added.
State election authority here demanded 43 more sections of the Central Security Forces for requisition on the day of polling in line with ECI standing instruction not to utilize state security forces in the by-election with the hectic process for the smooth conduct of the free and fair election extending over 37 polling stations are in progress.
While, all the polling stations across the constituency have been classified as sensitive, the state election department has decided to detail armed Central Security Forces in all the polling stations.
A total of additional 43 sections of CPMF including 37 section of BSF and seven section of CRPF were demanded by the state election authority from MHA for deployment on the day of polling.
But the same has been rejected by the MHA today, the source said.
Following the rejection to the proposal in line with authority�s demand, two companies of home guard personnel with eight sections of MR personnel undergoing training have been sanctioned for requisition, the source said.
Apart from this, a police of the SP rank, two DSP, five inspectors, 12 officers of the rank, SI, ASI and head constable with 351 numbers of constables will be utilized on the polling day.
