Sainik School Imphal wins debating competition

Imphal, October 24 2025:
In connection with the United Nations Day, Lions Club of Imphal organised the 33rd Debating Competition for higher secondary and college students at Lions Service Centre, Sangaiprou.
The debate competition was held on the topic "Scholars & Think-tanks have offered reformist ideas to make the UN viable & responsive to new world order, but bullying Permanent Members of the Security Council ignore it" .
The team championship running trophy was won by Sainik School, Imphal while Maria Montessori School, Imphal secured the second position.
In the individual category, Ria Tongbram of Liberal College won the 1st prize while Nongpoknganba Soubam of Sainik School won the 2nd prize.
Chanambam Churchil of Sainik School and Khwairakpam Minerva of St Xavier's College, Kolkata won the 3rd prize and consolation prize respectively.
The Speaker of the debate was Prof Chinglen Maisnam, HOD South Asian Studies, Manipur University.
At the event, Lion Th Imomacha, chairman of the Debating Committee, said that the primary objective of establishing the United Nations is to bring lasting peace to the world and foster good relations between Nations.
He continued that the Lions International had played a key role in the formation of the NGO wing of the UN, due to which Lions Day at UN (LDUN) is celebrated by the United Nations every year.
As a reciprocal gesture, the Lions International observe UN Day on October 24 every year, he added.
Past District Governors Lion Dr W Gopimohan and Lion H Manikumar and members of the club attended the event.
