Legal Awareness programme on child protection laws held at Khongjom

Thoubal, May 23 2026: A one-day legal awareness programme on the themes of the POCSO Act, 2012, Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, Free and Competent Legal Aid, and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act, 2015 was organised at Khongjom Standard English School on Saturday.

The programme was jointly organised by the Legal Aid Clinic, Samaram in association with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Thoubal.

Students of the school attended the awareness programme, which was graced by Officer-in-Charge of Khongjom Police Station, Inspector Harshvarthan V; Principal of Khongjom Standard English School, L Shaktidhar; Panel Lawyer of DLSA Thoubal, Advocate Mayanglambam Swami Singh; and Panel Lawyer Advocate Zakir Hussain as presidium members.

During the programme, Advocate Mayanglambam Swami Singh delivered detailed presentations on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, and the provisions relating to free and competent legal aid.

Panel Lawyer Advocate Zakir Hussain, serving as a resource person, spoke on the importance of free legal aid and elaborated on the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act, 2015, highlighting the legal safeguards and rights available for children in need of Care and protection.

An interactive session with the students was also held during the programme, where participants raised queries regarding legal rights, child protection laws and access to legal assistance.
