Torch rallies censure GoI policy

Denouncing alleged policy hatched by the government of India to obliterate Manipur, a torch rally was taken out on Thursday evening in different areas of Imphal East district.
The rally was organised by Imphal East District United Clubs' Organisation (IEDUCO) and PALEM under the aegis of All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur, All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), Committee on Human Right (COHR) and Manipuri Students' Federation.
The rally was taken out in Sinam, Yaigangpokpi, Leitanpokpi, Keibi Kamuda, Khewa, Pukhao, Sagolmang, Sawombung, Yumnam Patlou, Nongada, Chingarel Tejpur, Khurai, Wakhong, Pukhao Terapur, Kongba, Kongpal Kongkham Leikai, Pukhao Naharup, Lamboi Khul, Salangthel, Uyumpok, Pungdongbam, Ishikha, Ishingthembi, Yumnam Khunou, Khundrakpam, Napet Palli, Telou Chana, Yairipok Top Chingtha, Yairipok Laimanai and Andro.
The rally participants raised slogans in condemnation against the centre's alleged policy to subjugate rights of the people and obliterate Manipur.
The organisations said that the incident of obstructing the journalists on their way to cover the Shirui Lily festival testifies nefarious agenda of the central government to create divisions on ethnic lines and ultimately balkanise Manipur.
Meanwhile, Social United Clubs' Organisation, North Imphal United Clubs' and Meira Paibis organisation and Imphal East District United Clubs' Organisation under the aegis of AMUCO carried out torch rally on Friday from Chingmeirong Mamang Leikai.
However, police intervened and stopped the rallyists upon reaching Khongnang Ani Karak, directing them to return from that point.
The Aurora Club and Library Laipham Khunou, Sangakpham Meira Paibi and Lei Ingkhol Meira Paibi also carried out torch rally from Sangakpham till Khongnang Ani Karak.
A human chain was formed from Kongba to Bamon Kampu to protest the army's directive to a team of journalists to conceal 'Manipur' from the MST bus carrying them to Ukhrul for the Shirui Lily Festival.
