Mushroom cultivation training concludes

A two-day youth farmers' training programme on "Scientific cultivation of mushroom for livelihood improvement" concluded today at Yurembam Makha Leikai Community Hall, Imphal West district.
The training programme was organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Imphal West, ICAR Research Complex for NE Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat The closing ceremony was attended by K Thoiba Meetie, president, All Manipur Progressive Farmers' Association (AMPFA); Salam Gunamani.
SMS (Plant Breeding & Genetic), ICAR-KVK Imphal West; and L Bisho, commander, Arambai Tenggol Unit 14 as presidium members.
At the event, the dignitaries shared that mushroom cultivation is a viable and promising income-generating activity for young people in agricultural regions like Manipur, offering a cost-effective way to recycle agricultural waste, create employment, and improve livelihoods.
They asserted that the State's climate is suitable for mushroom growth, and the growing domestic and global demand for nutritious food provides a lucrative market for entrepreneurs.
They also emphasized the need for organising such training programmes to empower the youths with practical skills for income generation, self-reliance and improved quality of life.
About 45 youth farmers actively participated in the training programme.
