United College Chandel hosts National workshop on 'Academic Writing and Collaboration Activities'

Chandel, July 22 2026: A one-day National Workshop on' "Academic Writing and Collaboration Activities' was organised jointly Vidya Bharat Uchcha Shiksha Sansthan, Manipur Prant, and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of United College, Lambung, Chandel, at the college Seminar Hall on Wednesday.

Former Union Minister of State for Education and External Affairs Dr RK Ranjan Singh attended the workshop as chief guest.

The programme also featured Dr Tapu Biswas, Professor of English, Visva-Bharti Univertity, Santiniketan, West Bengal, and Dr R Vasanthan, Associate Professor of English, Nagaland Unoversity, Kohima, as resource persons.

Among those present were Prof Irom Gambhir Singh, Member of the UGC-North Hast and NEP-2020 Implementation Committee; former United College principal Dr BD Thumdal; social activist Ts Beton; and United College principal Dr Danney Chara, besides teaching and non-teaching staff.

The inaugural session, hosted by Teresa Ruwndar, began with the presentation of Lengyan, followed by a welcome address by workshop convenor Dr Md Mustaque Ahmed.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr BD Thumdal stressed the importance of academic writing and the need to popularise scholarly writing among younger generations.

He encouraged students and researchers to document indigenous knowledge, traditional cultures, oral histories and community practices for preservation and transmission to future generations.

In his keynote address, Dr RK Ranjan Singh paid tribute to the pioneers of United College and appreciated the organisers for conducting the academic programme.

Recalling his long association with Chandel, he also spoke of his enduring relationship with the people of the district.

Describing academic writing as meaningful intellectual engagement, Dr Ranjan said it provides a platform for local knowledge to find a place in global academic discourse.

He urged young scholars to rise above societal challenges and contribute meaningfully to the growing body of knowledge.

Principal Dr Danney Chara expressed her gratitude at hosting eminent academicians from across the country and said the workshop provided a valuable platform for exchanging ideas, research methodologies and opportunities for academic collaboration.

The technical sessions, moderated by Ngoruh Toshing Moyon, were conducted by Dr Tapu Biswas and Dr R Vasanthan.

More than 60 research scholars, faculty members and students from various institutions, including South East Manipur College (SEMCO), Komlathabi; Lilong Haoreibi College; Kha Manipur College, Kakching; Dhanamanjuri University; Manipur University; Naorem Birahari College; United College; Visva-Bharati University; and Nagaland University participated in the interactive sessions.

The programme concluded with the distribution of participation certificates to all participants.
