World Heritage Week : Art & Culture Commissioner flags off 'Mobile Exhibition'

As part of the World Heritage Week 2025 celebration, H Gyan Prakash, Commissioner, Art & Culture, Government of Manipur flagged off a 'Mobile Exhibition' from the historic Kangla Fort on Friday.
The Manipur State Archaeology under the Department of Art & Culture, Government of Manipur, is celebrating the World Heritage Week 2025 from November 19 to 25, 2025, to raise awareness about the importance of preserving and protecting cultural & historical heritage around the globe.
The flag-off ceremony held at the office of the State Archaeology in Kangla was attended by K Sashikant Sharma, Superintendent of Archaeology and other officials/ staff of the Department of Art & Culture.
Speaking on the occasion, H Gyan Prakash said that legacies passed down from past generations are valuable property and must be protected and exhibited to preserve the cultural & natural roots of a community/society.
"These assets help communities connect with their history, foster a sense of identity, and provide educational opportunities for future generations", he added.
He asserted that the Department has been protecting 65 archaeological sites in the State but most of the people still don't have any idea about these important sites.
He stressed on the need to spread awareness about the significance of these sites and encourage communities to value and safeguard these shared resources for future generations.
He also shared that to commemorate this week, various events will be organized, such as exhibitions, painting & quiz competitions, and cultural programmes, aimed at educating the people about the significance of these sites.
"This initiative aims to encourage local communities to take pride in their heritage and serves as a platform for promoting conservation efforts", said H Gyan Praksh.
As part of the event, H Gyan Prakash also inaugurated a new gallery at the Archaeological Museum.
