International Museum Day celebrated

Joining the rest of the world, Manipur Legislative Assembly Museum & Archives observed International Museum Day at the Old Assembly building today.
The event held under the theme "The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities", was graced by dignitaries, including Manipur Legislative Assembly, Joint Director, L Bimol; Deputy Secretary, Y Brajakumar Singh; Joint Director, L Sachi Singh and Thongbam Nanjest, Assistant Professor, Manipur College.
Speaking on the occasion, L Bimol said that International Museum Day is celebrated annually on May 18 to raise awareness about the vital role museums play in society, particularly in fostering cultural exchange, enrichment, and understanding.
He stated that the day aims to highlight the importance of museums as cultural institutions, showcasing their contributions to education, research, and community engagement.
He also shared that the Manipur Legislative Assembly Museum & Archives was established in 2018 with the aim to preserve the past and present political history of Manipur for the future generation by protecting them from destruction due to time and negligence.
Moreover, Manipur State Museum also celebrated International Museum Day at its complex in Imphal.
The event held under the aegis of the Department of Art & Culture, Government of Manipur was graced by M Joy, Special Commissioner, Art & Commissioner; K Sobita, retired Director, Art & Culture; and renowned sculptor Guru S Joychandra Sharma as presidium members.
Additionally, the closing function of the 10-Day Sculpture Workshop conducted in connection with International Museum Day was also held.
About 15 sculptors participated in the workshop.
