International Day of Families observed

Imphal, May 15 2025:
Department of Sociology, Manipur University (MU) observed International Day of Families with a national seminar on the theme 'Family and Sustainable Development Goals' at the department hall on Thursday.
The programme was attended by MU School of Social Sciences dean Prof L Memcha, Department of Anthropology former head Prof W Nabakumar, Department of Sociology former head Prof Rajendra Kshetri and Department of Sociology associate professor Dr M Lilee as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Prof Nabakumar highlighted the need for a progressive family and society in order to achieve sustainable development goals.
He observed a decline in discipline and mutual respect among family members, despite societal advancements around the world.
In light of the global race for development, he emphasised the importance of re-examining the role of the family.
Highlighting that family is a fundamental unit of society, Prof W Nabakumar stated that societal progress depends on the development of each family.
He also underscored the need for family-oriented programmes as a means to achieve sustainable development goals, asserting that no society can truly progress if women are not respected.
As part of the programme, a book abstract was also released.
Meanwhile, Department of Sociology, Dhanamanjuri University observed International Day of Families at DM College of Arts auditorium on the theme 'Families oriented policies for sustainable development'.
The programme was attended by DM University vice chancellor Prof W Chandbabu as chief guest, Manipur University Department of Sociology former head Prof Rajendra Kshet-ri, DM University School of Social Sciences dean Prof K Indramani, DM University School of Humanities dean Prof H Lanchenba Meetei as guests of honour and Department of Sociology head H Umabati as the functional president.
