Moirang, March 15 2026:
Residents of Moirang have demanded the removal of the CrPC Section 144 imposed at Omba Nurathel Garden, a site of historical and cultural significance associated with Moirang Kangleirol, before the upcoming Nongma Panba Cheiraoba.
The demand was raised during a press conference held after local residents stormed the office of the Moirang Municipal Council today.
Speaking to the media, M Somorjit, representing the people of Moirang, stated that the prohibitory order was imposed following a dispute over a cafeteria located within the garden premises, reportedly after the tender for operating the facility was allocated to an individual.
He asserted that Omba Nurathel Garden is an asset belonging to the people of Moirang and should not be brought under the control of any private individual.
The site, located under Ward no.5 of the Moirang Municipal Council, holds historical importance and is also a popular tourist destination in the State, he added.
Somorjit further demanded that the authorities revoke the CrPC Section 144 at the garden before March 18.Failing to do so, he warned that the people of Moirang would launch an intense form of agitation.
