Ukhrul, October 14 2025:
The Tangkhul Naga Film Association (TNFA) has issued a statement in defence of noted artist Shamurailatpam Naba Sharma, popularly known as Naba Volcano, who has reportedly come under defamatory attacks on Facebook as a result of "distorted clips" posted by certain individuals with vested interests.
Stating that such actions to malign the singer's reputation are deeply irresponsible and contrary to the values of a civilized and cultured society, TNFA has warned those responsible to immediately remove the distorted clips and defamatory comments and to cease the malicious campaign against Shamurailatpam Naba Sharma.
According to a press release issued by YL Ravins, the singer attended the 5th Tangkhul Naga Film Festival held on March 28- 29, 2025 at Ambrose Hotel, Ukhrul as the chief guest.
During the award distribution ceremony on March 29, he was requested to perform the popular song "Chinggi Echal" alongside Rosemary Shaiza, a Tangkhul singer and an actor.
As per the TNFA statement, Naba Volcano obliged and performed the duet with his characteristic humility and warmth and a touch of playful acting which delighted the audience.
The performance was later uploaded on the official Youtube channel of the Tangkhul Naga Film Association.
"Regrettably, some vested interests have since circulated on Facebook a maliciously edited version of this performance, accompanied by false and misleading comments alleging inappropriate behaviour.
These fabricated clips, taken out of context, deliberately distort an innocent and artistic interaction into something unbecoming", asserted TNFA .
TNFA has strongly condemned this "act of character assassination against a revered artist and social figure".
It added that Shamurailatpam Naba is not only a celebrated singer but also a cultural icon and peace advocate, known for his lifelong efforts to promote communal harmony and understanding.
