Signature campaign: Malem Thongam set for "peace solo ride" across all 16 districts

Bishnupur, February 14 2026: Social activist Malem Thongam is set to embark on another peace solo ride across the 16 districts of the State from March 12 as part of her ongoing mass signature campaign launched on February 1 with the support of Citizens of Manipur.

The announcement was made at the launching program of the signature campaign under the theme "Campaign To Move Freely in Manipur" for Bishnupur district at Nambol Keithel Lairembi Makhong in the presence of representatives of different groups.

At the event, the transgender activist said she is hoping to get State legislators to participate in the campaign as its objective is to seek the reopening of the National Highways and unrestricted free movement along these routes.

Announcing the solo ride, she said it will cover all 16 districts in Manipur from March 12 to 27, a total of 16 days, and she will seek the signature of all MLAs during the ride.

As she aims to pedal through the hill districts, she has made an appeal to the Kuki-Zo community to not view her solely as a Meitei but as a human being who wishes to see all communities in the State live in harmony and peace.

She has sought the support of the public in both the hill and valley areas in this regard.

After collecting the signatures, petitions will be filed at the Supreme Court and High Court of Manipur to allow free movement along the National Highways, she maintained.

Representatives of Nambol Ima Keithel Lukmai Sintha Lup, Development & Protection United Voluntary Organisation Nambol, Nambol Apunba Nupi Lup, Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup, Apunba Nupi Lup Bishnupur District, ANUL representatives and other Nambol based CSOs were present at the launching event.
