Condolences pour in for Vikram Singh; demand for Anti-Racial Law grows

Imphal, September 12 2026: Condolences continue to pour in over the tragic demise of renowned Manipuri guitarist and musician Chongtham Vikram Singh in New Delhi.

Vikram Singh, a respected musician, music teacher and contributor to Manipur's cultural landscape, reportedly succumbed to injuries sustained in an alleged assault outside his residence in Kilokari, Delhi, on September 7 following an altercation over noise.

The United Meitei-Pangal Council (UMPC) Manipur has expressed profound grief over his death.

As a mark of respect, the Council observed two minutes of silence and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

Condemning the brutal act, UMPC urged authorities to ensure a fair, impartial and time-bound investigation and that those responsible are dealt with firmly under law.

The Council expressed concern over the safety, dignity and security of people from Manipur and the Northeast living outside the region, stating every citizen has the right to live with dignity without fear.

Meanwhile, Irabot Charitable Trust, Imphal has also expressed profound grief over the demise of Chongtham Vikram.

Members of the Trust today visited his residence at Thangmeiband to share grief with the bereaved family.

Trust advisor Ng Nongyai said around 2 lakh people from Manipur work in cities like Delhi, Mumbai.

Hyderabad and Chennai and about 80 percent face various hardships, with 9 deaths in the last 20 years under suspicious conditions.

He urged the Government of India to implement the Bezbaruah Committee (2014) recommendations and enact an Anti-Racial Discrimination Law to protect human rights and prevent racial discrimination.
