Imphal, June 11 2025:
CPI Manipur State Council former state secretary L Sotinkumar has strongly suggested taking a fresh mandate of the people to form a popular government in the state which could work in the interest of the people.
Addressing media persons at Irawat Bhawan on Wednesday, Sotinkumar said Manipur continues to encounter very serious and perilous day-by-day.
People of the state are likely to suffer even more in the efforts to bring an end to challenges posed to territorial integrity of Manipur, he said adding that there is very serious threat to the territorial integrity of Manipur since May 3, 2023.While asserting that people of the state are suffering under the present President's Rule, L Sotinkumar said the state encountered two days of bandh over the Gwaltabi incident of removal of the word 'Manipur' from Manipur State Transport bus.
Before intense agitation against Gwaltabi incident subsided, which people considered as a serious threat to territorial integrity of Manipur, a devastating flood hit parts of the state affecting nearly two lakh people.
Before recovering from the flood woes, the people endured four consecutive days of shutdown/bandh over the arrest of Arambai Tenggol members, he added.
While holding the then BJP-led government responsible for the present unrest situation due to haughty attitude and activities even during sessions of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, Sotinkumar said BJP MLAs are now rushing to Delhi and begging to their central leaders for reinstating a popular government since the imposition of President's Rule in the state.
Instead of repetitive rushing to and from Delhi, the MLAs should chalk out strategy so that central leaders officially come to the state or a team of Joint Parliamentary Committee comprising all political parties assess the situation and take necessary action, he suggested.
According to L Sotinkumar, the CPI state unit does not believes that repeated begging to central leaders for government formation would yield any result.
Moreover, there is no valid reason for return of a government led by BJP which had failed to shoulder responsibility of the people in the past.
Accordingly, the CPI believes that a fresh mandate of the people is necessary to bring a new government which could shoulder responsibility of the people , he observed.
For more than two years, the Meetei community of Manipur is unable to travel along national highways and it is demand of the CPI to allow free movement along national highways with proper protection.
The centre should also shoulder the responsibility to resolve the crisis lingering for more than two years by holding dialogues, Sotinkumar said.
While stating that people's suspicion about the Centre allowing and funding foreign origin Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists to attack valley people so as to suppress revolutionaries has substance, the CPI leader strongly called for giving up the policy of engaging Kuki armed groups in attacking the valley people.
He also said that the Centre can easily end the present crisis if it is sincere enough and provide economic package for damages done in the violence since May, 2023 .
