Satellite OST Centre rolled out at Manipur Central Jail

Nirvana Foundation in collaboration with Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa rolled out a Satellite Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) Centre under the aegis of Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MACS) today at MCJ, Sajiwa today.
The launching of the OST Centre at Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa was graced by Speaking on the occasion, SK Bhadrika, MJS, Superintendent, Manipur Central Jail, lauded Nirvana Foundation for consistently working for the welfare of the inmates of Manipur Central Jail including the roll out of the OST Centre which will benefit them immensely .
Within two or three days of entering the jail, Nirvana Foundation makes sure that the inmates undergo HIV and Hepatitis (B,C) tests.
If any inmate tests positive, then the Foundation facilitates their necessary treatment in an easy manner.
On the other hand, such tasks would prove to be time-consuming and inconvenient for the jail authority, he said.
The Superintendent of MCJ further informed that the Foundation also offers tests for sexually transmitted diseases to the inmates and the staff of the jail.
Meanwhile, Sobhana Sorokhaibam, secretary, Nirvana Foundation, shared that the Foundation started operating at MCJ from 2016 .
She Said that Nirvana Foundation provides assistance to women and children and victims of drug related issues.
Today's event was also graced by Shamim Ahmad Shah, MCS, Project Director, MACS; Dr K Shantibala, HoD, Department of Psychiatry, JNIMS & Nodal Officer OST, JNIMS and W Joyson, Deputy Director, Prevention/Disha, MACS and inmates of the jail.
