Thai varsity delegates in Imphal for language, culture exchange

Imphal, May 04 2026:
A nine-member delegation from Suan Dusit University (SDU), Bangkok, arrived at the Imphal Airport this afternoon, marking a significant milestone in the educational and cultural ties between Thailand and Manipur.
The team is in the State to participate in a Language and Cultural Exchange Programme hosted by Pitambara English School (PES), Kwakeithel Heinoukhongnembi.
The programme is scheduled to run from May 5 to 8 .
The Thai delegates were received with a warm traditional welcome at the airport.
The reception party included several high-ranking academic officials, notably Prof W Chandbabu, Vice-Chancellor of DM University; Dr L Surjit, Deputy Registrar of Manipur University of Culture (MUC); and Thounaojam Vimita, Principal of Pitambara English School.
Numerous teachers and students greeted the visitors with enthusiasm.
Speaking to the media, Thounaojam Vimita highlighted that PES is the first school in Manipur to introduce the Thai language into its curriculum among South East Asian languages.
The school has been teaching the language for three years, and this exchange programme is a culmination of their ongoing efforts to provide students with international exposure.
"We signed an MoU with Suan Dusit University this February.
This exchange takes the partnership forward," she said.
Suan Dusit University Assistant Professor Dr Pornchanit Kaew Nate said the visit would strengthen Thailand-Manipur ties by helping youth understand each other's education and culture.
