International Day of Persons with Disabilities observed widely

As observed across the globe, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2025 was celebrated widely in the State today to promote understanding of disability issues and mobilise support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities (PwDs).
This year's theme "Fostering Disability-Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress", aims to reaffirm the commitment to create a more just, inclusive, equitable, and sustainable world for all.
The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR), RIMS, Imphal, observed the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at the PMR OPD Complex.
The event held was graced by Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS; Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent; Prof Kunjabasi Wangjam, former HOD, PMR & former National President, IAPMR; and Prof L Nilachandra Singh, HOD, PMR, as presidium members, said a release issued by RIMS.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof G Sunil Kumar emphasized the importance of creating a barrier-free environment for persons with disabilities and highlighted RIMS' ongoing commitment to strengthening rehabilitation services.
He also stressed the need for collaborative efforts from healthcare professionals, institutions, and the community to ensure accessibility, dignity, and equal opportunities for all individuals with disabilities.
As part of the ceremony, the introduction and felicitation of two national achievers and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) were carried out, acknowledging their contributions and accomplishments.
Prof Kunjabasi Wangjam was also introduced and felicitated for his distinguished service and leadership in the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
The event included distribution of certificates and prizes for painting competition winners and felicitation of jury members.
An art exhibition by the Welfare Association for the Blind, Manipur, Takyel, was also organised, showcasing the artistic talents and creativity of visually impaired artists.
The event was attended by the Deputy Director (Admn), Dean (Academics), Heads of Departments, Principal of College of Nursing, CAO/FA, faculty members, nursing officials, staff, and students of RIMS, Imphal.
Similarly, Relief Centre for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons Manipur celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities by presenting gifts to the PwDs.
Led by chief functionary Moirangthem Premier, a team of Relief Centre for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons Manipur visited the residence of PwDs (recognised by the centre) at Langmeidong in Kakching district, Ayangpalli Pangal Leirak in Imphal East district, and Khagempalli, Awang Potshangbam, Lamshang and Tera Bazar in Imphal West district.
The team presented gifts including blankets and shared warm talks & snacks with the PwDs.
Health cards of Niramaya Health Insurance under National Trust Scheme were also distributed.
Moreover, All Manipur Disabled & Handicapped Persons Development Agency (AMDHPDA) also celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at its office premises in Singjamei Chingamakha Kshetri Leikai Nambul Mapal.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including, Salam Sachhidanand Singh, general manager, Classic Group of Hotel; Sougrakpam Sumati Devi, secretary, All Manipur Student's Guardian Organisation; Dr Shantajit Oinam, Department of Physics, Manipur College; and Dr Naorem Chaoba.
