121st birth anniversary of litterateur K Chandra Kumar Singha observed in Agartala

The 121st birth anniversary of Keithellakpam Chandra Kumar Singha, a pioneer in the field of literature in Tripura, was observed on Monday at Awang Dhaleswar, Agartala, Tripura.
The homage ceremony organised to pay tribute to the eminent litterateur was presided over by Mayengbam Mrinal Kanti.
The programme was organised by the family members of Chandra Kumar Singha and was attended by several eminent personalities from the literary field, including Keithellakpam Nilakanta; L Birmangal; W Birmangal; S Khelamohan; K Haripada; S Shyamal; RK Tarunjit; L Malaya; Y Anjali; L Mina and L Anjali Rani; among others.
The welcome address was delivered by L Kumar.
It may be recalled that Keithellakpam Chandra Kumar, with the objective of helping Bengalis learn the Manipuri language, published an educational book titled "Meitei Lon" in 1939 .
He later authored the drama book titled "Martya gi Parijaat Leirang" in 1955.Chandra Kumar was honoured with the Rastrapati Puraskar in 1963, becoming the first Meitei in Tripura to receive the prestigious award.
He was also honoured with the Sahitya Bhushan by the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal, in 1975 .
A poetry session in memory of Chandra Kumar Singha and a cultural performances were also held as part of the observance.
