Last rites of former MP/MLA Bd Behring performed

The final rites of Ex-MP and MLA Bd Behring was held today with full honors at his birthplace in Chakpikarong under Chandel district.
Bd Behring breathed his last on June 27 at Gangaram Hospital, New Delhi.
A veteran politician from the Naga community, Bd Behring represented the 41-Chandel (ST) Assembly Constituency in Manipur.
He served as Member of the Legislative Assembly and later as a Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) .
A widely respected leader, he was known for his unwavering advocacy for the development of tribal and hill areas Born on Feb 18, 1951, Bd Behring completed his higher education in Political Science from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi.
His political journey began in earnest when he contested the 5th Manipur State Legislative Assembly elections in 1990 as a candidate of the Janata Dal from 41-Chandel (ST) Assembly Constituency.
He went on to serve as Rajya Sabha MP the same year, however he resigned from his position.
He was re-elected again as the MLA of 41-Chandel (ST) AC in 2002 and held office as the Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports (Independent Charge) .
Over the years, Behring held key positions in various tribal and Naga organizations and worked relentlessly for the upliftment and empowerment of his people.
He was also conferred the "Best Citizen of India" award in 2005, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to public service.
His funeral was attended by prominent leaders, civil society members, relatives, and well-wishers, all of whom joined in mourning the loss of a respected statesman and beloved public figure.
