Awareness programme on "Gender discrimination and PC-PNDT" held

A one-day awareness programme on gender discrimination and PC-PNDT (Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques) Act was organised by Little Flower School, Past Pupils Association (LFS, PPA) in collaboration with the Directorate of Family Welfare Services at the auditorium of the school today.
On the occasion, past pupil of LFS and Joint Director of Family Welfare Services as well as Chairman of SSA PC-PNDT Act Dr Irengbam Soniya educated the gathering about PC-PNDT Act while Dr Sujata Huidrom, State Nodal Officer, PC-PNDT spoke about gender equality and the importance of girl child.
Meanwhile, Rupa Takhellambam, secretary, LFS, PPA delivered a speech highlighting the ills of practising gender discrimination and sex-selective abortion.
She expressed confidence that today's programme will help spread awareness at this girls' only school about the rights of women/girls and fetuses and make them aware of what steps to take if/when their rights are violated.
The event was attended by LFS Headmistress Sister Mercy Gangmei; Naorem Monika, president, LFS, PPA, teachers and Class VIII students of the school.
