Meeting held to boost sericulture in Bishnupur

Bishnupur, July 28 2026: A District Stakeholders' Consultation Meeting was organised at the DC Complex, Bishnupur, on Tuesday under the Mera Resham Abhiman (MRMA) 2.0 campaign, a National Mega Sericulture Technology Transfer Campaign.

The meeting was organised by the Central Silk Board-Regional Sericultural Research Station (CSB-RSRS), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, Mantripukhri, Imphal, in collaboration with the District Sericulture Office, Bishnupur.

The consultation focused on formulating a districtspecific action plan for the sustainable development of sericulture in Bishnupur district.

Officials interacted with stakeholders to assess the current status of sericulture and identify district-specific opportunities and challenges.

Discussions were held on issues including host plantation, availability of quality seeds, pest and disease management, infrastructure, marketing and capacity building.

Stakeholders also shared suggestions and practical experiences to strengthen the implementation of the programme.

The meeting emphasised the need for coordinated efforts among stakeholders to ensure effective dissemination of technology and timely support to sericulture beneficiaries.

The programme was attended by L Neli James, Deputy Director, Department of Sericulture; Dr S Subharani Devi, Scientist-D and Head, CSB-RSRS; K Tahenleima Chaun, District Sericulture Officer, Bishnupur; Kh Gopikanta Singh, District Sericulture Officer, Thoubal; Dr Kh Subadas Singh, Scientist-D, CSB-RSRS, Imphal; N Rakesh Singh, State Nodal Officer, MRMA 2.0; and G Joshikanta Sharma, Superintendent, Department of Sericulture.

Members of the Shilheibi Development Organisation (SHG), Keibul Lamjao, Bishnupur, along with sericulture farmers from the district, also participated in the consultation.
