Assam Rifles commemorates Kargil Vijay Diwas with outreach programmes across Manipur

CCpur/Cdl/Tpl, July 26 2026: Assam Rifles commemorated Kargil Vijay Diwas across Manipur through a series of veteran welfare initiatives, patriotic rallies and youth career guidance programmes held in Churachandpur, Chandel and Tengnoupal districts on July 25 and 26.Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed annually on July 26 to commemorate India's victory in the 1999 Kargil War and pay homage to the valour and supreme sacrifices of soldiers who defended the nation's frontiers in the challenging high-altitude terrain.

According to a statement issued by IGAR (South), the commemorative programmes were aimed at preserving military traditions, promoting veteran welfare and inspiring the youth towards national service.

On July 25, Assam Rifles personnel based at Veng organised a career guidance and leadership session at VK Tawna Senior School in Churachandpur district.

The interactive session was attended by 162 students, who were briefed on various career opportunities in the Indian Armed Forces, including entry schemes, eligibility standards, selection frameworks and military training academies.

An official who is a domain expert in Quality Management addressed the students on leadership, discipline and professional ethics.

The session provided guidance on competitive examination strategies and encouraged the students to consider careers in the defence services.

On July 26, commemorative programmes were held at Modi in Chandel district and Khudengthabi in Tengnoupal district.

At Modi, the programme began with the hoisting of the National Flag and a Pipe Band display.

The gathering brought together 288 members of the military veteran community, comprising 240 ex-servicemen, three Veer Naris and 45 widows, along with Assam Rifles personnel.

Families of fallen soldiers were felicitated in recognition of their resilience and sacrifices.

As part of a welfare initiative, a beneficiary was provided with a water pump and pipeline installation to address domestic water supply issues at her residence.

A friendly football match between ex-servicemen and security forces personnel was also organised to strengthen camaraderie.

Simultaneously at Khudengthabi in Tengnoupal district, Assam Rifles organised a Tiranga Rally on July 26 to mark the occasion.

The rally saw the participation of 37 students alongside 26 security personnel, who marched with the National Flag while chanting patriotic slogans to uphold national unity and honor the heroes of the 1999 war.

Through the programmes, Assam Rifles paid tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the Kargil heroes while extending its support to the veteran community and engaging with the youth.

The initiatives also served as a reminder of the enduring spirit of patriotism, sacrifice and service that continues to inspire generations across the nation.
