Several arrested, arms seized in search Ops

Imphal, April 26 2025:
Police and security forces, in a series of intelligence-based combing and cordon and search operations, have arrested several individuals involved in extortion activities and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from different parts of the state.
According to a statement of police control room, police arrested one Wayenbam Bijoy Meitei (53), a sympathiser of Koireng-led UNLF, from Heigrujam Mamang Leikai under Nambol police station in Imphal West district on Friday.
Acting on his disclosure, authorities seized an AK-56 rifle with a magazine, a .303 rifle with a telescopic scope and magazine, a 7.62 mm empty magazine, and 15 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition.

In a separate operation on Thursday, 33 live rounds of 7.62 mm (SLR) ammunition were recovered from Leirongthel Pitra foothills under Nongpok Sekmai PS in Thoubal district.
Security forces also arrested two active members of the proscribed group PREPAK (Pro) on Friday.
Khongbantabam Samarjit Meitei alias Langamba (26) was apprehended from Seijang Mayai Leikai under Yaingangpokpi PS, while Elangbam Langamba Meitei alias Ibungo (25) was arrested from Tellou Mamang Leikai under Lamlai PS, both in Imphal East district.
Two mobile phones were seized from Samarjit's possession.
On Thursday, police arrested two cadres of PLA/RPF, Sorokhaibam Joysankar alias Haoba (33), and Moirangthem Nelson alias Mani (30) from Langthabal Mantrikhong Mayai Leikai under Singjamei PS, Imphal West district.
They were allegedly involved in extorting money from the general public.
Two mobile handsets with SIM cards and a two-wheeler were seized from them.
In a major operation from Keipha Road and Khuman area under Moirang PS in Bishnupur district, security forces recovered a large cache of weapons including a Carbine Machine Gun with an empty magazine, a .303 rifle without magazine, four single-barrel guns, two country-made 9mm pistols, two hand grenades, two IEDs weighing approximately 2.2 kg and 1.7 kg, two tube grenade launching pipes, two tube grenade launching rings, two tear smoke grenades, a No 80 smoke grenade, 10 rounds of .303 live ammunition, seven ballistic live rounds, 15 empty 7.62 mm cartridges, four empty AK-47 cartridges, 28 empty 5.56 mm cartridges, a BP helmet, a Baofeng set with four chargers, and two plastic sacks used for concealing the weapons.
