Many mourn demise of Ratan Thiyam

Condolences continue to pour in from different quarters mourning the untimely demise of theatre icon Ratan Thiyam.
Ratan Thiyam breathed his last on Wednesday at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal after a prolonged illness.
He was 77.In separate releases, Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK), Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), Yumjao Lairembi Dramatic & Cultural Union, Roop-Raag, Imphal Theatre, Manipur, Khundongbam Brojendro Cultural Trust and All India Students' Federation, Manipur State Council have expressed profound sorrow and condolence over the untimely demise of theatre icon Ratan Thiyam.
The organisations hailed the deceased as a visionary playwright, director, poet, and philosopher who redefined both Manipuri and Indian theatre through his masterful integration of tradition and modernity.
Stating that his death has left a huge vacuum which will be difficult to fill by anyone, the organisations also shared the grief of the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace in the heavenly abode.
Moreover, Kanglei People's Confederation convened a condolence meeting today at its head office in Keishamthong to mourn the passing of Ratan Thiyam.
During the meeting, members of the confederation shared the grief of the bereaved family and observed two minutes of silence as a mark of respect to Ratan Thiyam.
