Imphal, June 25 2025:
RK Memcha, Judge of the Fast Track Special Court Number-1 has convicted 25-year-old Lairenjam Naoba under Section 366 IPC for abducting a minor victim.
However, the Court freed him from the charge of sexual assault and fixed June 26 for the sentence hearing to determine the quantum of punishment.
The case dates back to February 8, 2022, when the victim's mother lodged a complaint at the Women Police Station in Imphal West, alleging that the convict had forcefully kidnapped and sexually assaulted her daughter.
The convict is married and has two children and he surrendered before police on the day the complaint was lodged against him.
Sub Inspector Horthingwon Lunglen, the IO of the case, submitted the chargesheet before the Court for trial against the convict after completing the investigation.
During the trial of the case, the Prosecution produced 11 prosecution witnesses and 16 material exhibits before the Court.
The Court, after considering the submissions of the Special PP and the defence counsel, and reviewing the evidence on record, observed that the prosecution had proven beyond reasonable doubt that the convict committed the offence under Section 366 IPC (abduction), but failed to establish the charges under Section 4 of the POCSO Act (sexual assault) .
